The experience.
So first off, I walked about 6 miles (ca. 8 kilometres) in the snow and ice on this day, back in 2017! With boots that had a liner like sandpaper on my ankles.!! Like usual, I was not dressed for -12 C, shivering, and bleeding, I toughed it out. O yeah, this was after a 6-hour drive to get to this place!
So, staying on the icy, snow covered path, we trekked around and watched this bird for a few hours, shivering!
Ok, enough whining like a baby, this was all my own fault. Some people never learn! (me)
This great grey owl perched in a tree about 125 yards (ca. 114 metres) off in the distance. We watched it, listening for a sign of live voles. They can hear their prey 2 feet (0.61 m) below the surface of the snow.
Finally, after about 20 minutes waiting, this beauty takes off in our direction. With perfect accuracy, it dove into the snow, and made a kill. Seconds later, the meal was gone. And another lift off and travelling to the next hunting perch.
Without much time, the hunt was on again!
Then, back home to Niagara, all warmed up, and a plan to visit a shoe store the next day.
So many cool images of this bird, I went back the next weekend. Buddy, Bruce Kennedy and I were not disappointed!
