Missed!
This young Caspian tern entertained me for a good hour, in west Burlington a few weeks ago. So amazing to watch it dive, and hunt in the shallow pond full of fish.
The reflections of the marsh area on the far side of the pond were very nice, and a positive inclusion with the image of the tern. The bird had just finished a crash into the water, and it definitely came up empty.
I like the wing position, as it moves on to continue the quest for food, also developing its hunting skills.
The choice of camera was the Sony A9.
My Sony A9 does very well tracking birds in flight. Setting the camera at 800 ISO worked out well to keep the shutter speed up, and freeze the detail.
The RAW image was slightly overexposed on the bird, so I think 400 ISO would have done well. I find shooting full manual exposure often has its advantages.
