Way back in 2014!
With some friends from California, we had a good time shooting these cool Fiery-throated hummingbirds. A truly difficult task, trying to catch a flight shot. They are so unreal lightning fast!
In this shot, I was focused on the bird on the left, as it was hovering. It seems the neighbour was a little ticked off, and they decided to have at it. The battle ensued.
What was remarkable? They both were the same distance from my sensor. If one bird was a half-inch closer, this shot would not have happened. So, yes, I call this luck.
Maybe a 1 in a thousand chance of this scene happening, and having the correct settings to catch it. Especially at f4, and perhaps 15 feet (4.57 m) away from the camera.
The D800 was decent at ISO 3,200 so not bad for noise, so 1/2000th of a second was just enough. Low light, overcast skies made things interesting.
I am eagerly awaiting a trip to Ecuador, hoping things work out for this tour in 3 weeks. With the Sony Cameras, and the 200-600 mm lens, I am hoping for some fun results.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
